Brighton Gets a New Junior English Language School!

Brighton Gets a New Junior English Language School!

Just in time for Summer 2013, Kaplan International Colleges has announced the opening of their new Junior English language school in Brighton, one of the UK’s trendiest cities. The school will be providing students between the ages of 14 and 17 Junior English courses as well as accommodation, meals and a full activity program.

The school is located on the gorgeous Varley campus and offers everything from purpose-built accommodation, cutting-edge classrooms and an exciting social program hub for students taking Kaplan English courses in Brighton.

Brighton, with its beautiful beaches, numerous green parks and a long history of international student visitors, is a well-established teenage language destination and is the perfect city for teenagers who want to learn English while having a fabulous social experience.

Kaplan’s Junior Operations Manager for the UK & Ireland, Ms Anna Robinson, said that this group of teen learners “are really going to love being in this exciting location and experiencing everything Brighton has to offer.”

The new Brighton center is a great addition to Kaplan’s UK junior program

destinations in Bath, Bournemouth, London Kingston, Salisbury and the seaside town of Torquay, which take students aged between 12 and 17.

A summer English program for teens can be the experience of a lifetime. While gaining practical English skills, students can experience living in a new place, make new friends and take part in a variety of excursions and activities offering the chance to use English. It’s a great way to spend a summer holiday!

Through teaching New York City youth about Japanese culture, NY de Volunteer hopes to create a strong sense of “Global citizenship.” Every 20 dollars raised gives one child a chance to participate in our EJC program. Let’s create a good society in which all children can have big dreams together!

Are you romantic when it comes to English?

Just a few months before Valentines’ Day, Kaplan International Colleges has launched their “Language of Love survey” which aims to discover the romantic motivations behind language learning among other things. This short, ten question survey, asks some fundamental questions about the motivation behind learning a second language. Examples include: “Have you ever learned a language to impress a loved one?” and “What do you think is the most romantic language?” I can’t wait to see the results of this one!

According to the school’s online Marketing Executive, Mr. Martin Hofschröer, the survey is fun and should be enjoyable for all language learners around the world. “We hope that there will be some interesting results that we can share with the language learning community,” he said. There is alwaus something exciting going on for students who learn English with Kaplan!

Those responding to the survey will be entered into a prize drawing to win $100 worth of Amazon vouchers. The results will be compiled into an infographic scheduled to be published on, well, Valentines Day, of course! Do you want to try it? Just click here to take the survey…and good luck!

Muggles Improve Their English Watching Harry Potter!

For wizards, learning English is probably simple. All they need to do is whip up a magic potion and poof! They can converse naturally. For the rest of us muggles, or non-wizards, we need more than magic. According to a recent survey, that help is coming to a lot of people from Harry Potter.

According to research done by Kaplan International Colleges, A good number of students around the world are improving their English by watching the eight-part Harry Potter movie series. The study revealed that 79% of people said that watching films helped them to understand English better and the wizarding adventures of Harry Potter were the most popular movies for enhancing language learning. In fact, 24% of people said that they increased their understanding of English from watching the young wizard.  Just 11% of the students claimed that the romantic disaster film Titanic helped their learning and Pixar’s Toy Story came in at about 7%. You can see all of the results in the How to Learn English Infographic .

A spokesman at MuggleNet, the world’s no. 1 Harry Potter fan site, said, “It is certainly not surprising to the millions of ‘Potterheads’ that the Harry Potter films have been selected as the number one way to learn English through the cinema.” The boy wizard and his films have also made international students more likely to want to travel to the UK to study the language. London was one of the most-used filming locations for the series.

If you haven’t checked out the Harry Potter series to help you study English, why not get a DVD this weekend and check it out!
